With over 1,100 bills sitting on the Governor's desk and only three days left to either sign them or veto them the question is being raised, "Who's minding the store?"
Governor Perry is apparently a decent dancer. He danced around the issue of Texas secession simulatenously raising the hopes of Texans for a new start and causing indigestion in the White House Situation Room. Although he talked a good game, he wouldn't "sink the 8-ball". And while he's taking a tour of the soon-to-be-former United States dropping hooks in the water over a possible presidential bid, the work here in Texas from the current-now-special session is largely unfinished.
Not only has there been silence over the Federal Government's continued encroachment on our independence and sovereignty there has been an unwillingness to address the real issues on the minds of Texans. This would include the recent, massive shootout on the Texas border.
The Austin American-Statesman reports:
According to the Legislative Reference Library, 1,379 bills were sent to Perry's desk during the regular session that ended May 30. By Thursday afternoon, he had signed or vetoed 277 bills. He also can allow the legislation to become law without his signature.
