Independence Rising In Belgium

Belgium is splitting up. This is a foregone conclusion. The Flemish are tired of subsidizing the Walloons and it's beginning to show. In the last elections a pro-secession candidate was elected to the highest office in the land on a platform of "let's split the country in two and let the Walloons support themselves for a change."

This should have a familiar ring to Texans as we find ourselves in the same situation. What we do works. What the rest of the U.S. does, does not. We could do much better without the Walloon, D.C. statist welfare mentality.

This week, the head of the Vlaams Belang Party in Belgium, staged a protest in support of Flemish secession by changing the name of a street in Brussels.

Party head Philip DeWinter said:

"After one year of negotiations without any results I think it's clear that there should be an alternative, and that alternative is the independence of Flanders and the independence of Wallonia. We need a Flemish republic because doing what we are doing now has no sense."
